A Romantic Evening with Jackie Allen: Live at The Rococo is very much the intimate set which the recording’s title implies. The project is also an extraordinary showcase of inventive arrangements and a confident singer. Allen dives into each of the album’s confidently and delivers absolute gems with each one. The menu of music is an eclectic one with an array of works by Paul Simon, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, Burt Bacharach and Hal David and William “Smokey” Robinson among others. The musicians on the production do a magnificent job of providing Allen wonderful song landscapes to navigate. The players are Bob Sheppard on saxophones and flute, Hans Sturm on bass, John Moulder on guitar, Dane Richeson on drums, Ben Lewis on keyboards. It all makes for an outstanding listening experience.
