This release is a bit of a shift for guitarist Henry Robinett. Known for a more contemporary jazz sound, Jazz Standards Volume 1: Then, recorded some 20 ago shows a different side of the musician. Robinett brings a new take to some of the great jazz classics while retaining the vibrant sound of his earlier work. The talented quartet here includes Joe Gilman on piano, Chris Symer on bass, and Michael Stephans on drums. The unit swings together very nicely while also covering a ballad as adroitly. The music menu features some wonderful arrangements that contribute to great performances heard here. A wonderful showcase of brilliant playing.
