Saxophonist Anthony E. Nelson, Jr.’s Swinging Sunset is fantastic work. The recording is his fifth as a leader and showcases a musician with an impressive tone on the horn at the top of his game. The set is a quality mix of standards by the likes of Stanley Turrentine, Johnny Griffin, Tadd Dameron, and Eddie Heywood, among others, along with several of Nelson’s impressive originals. Helping to make this production even better are the talents of Kyle Koehler on Hammond B3 organ and Cecil Brooks III on drums. The three players work well together and deliver outstanding performances of the tunes. This is one not to miss.
