Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt’s Noir en Rouge: Live in Paris brims the electric intensity that can only be found in a live jazz setting. Recorded in Paris at Sunset-Sunside Jazz Club in 2017, Pelt and his quintet of Victor Gould on piano, Vicente Archer on bass, Jonathan Barber on drums, and Jacquelene Acevedo on percussion are in top form. From uptempo burners to the tenderest ballads, the band is simply superb. In addition to the great performances and the stellar sound quality, it’s the mix of original compositions and ideas, alongside re-imagined standards that elevates this production even higher. This is an example of what live jazz is at its absolute best.
