Live Work & Play is the compelling third release from Chicago-based saxophonist and composer Caroline Davis. There’s an intensity to Davis’ playing and writing which seems to come from a true desire to forge her own path as an artist. She’s joined in this effort by her quartet featuring guitarist Mike Allemana, drummer Jeremy Cunningham and bassist Matt Ferguson. The song selection is mostly Davis’ own work, with a composition from Allemana and nods to works by Billy Strayhorn and Charlie Parker. Davis is a dynamic musical voice that simply cannot be missed.
