Jeremy Green | In Motion

Guitarist and composer Jeremy Green delivers eight original pieces on In Motion built around muscular grooves, layered riffs and the language of jazz-rock fusion. Green on guitar and Keith Carlock on drums provide the album’s foundation, joined by Mark Lettieri, Mike Stern, Allen Hinds, Jared James Nichols and Oz Noy on guitar; Will Lee, Tim Lefebvre, Rich Brown, Jimmy Haslip and Moto Fukushima on bass; Chase Baird on saxophone; and Mark Levron on trumpet. The roster is formidable, but the production doesn’t feel like a package of guest cameos, with each player joining in on Green’s compositions to sharpen a particular rhythmic, melodic or tonal idea. Green’s writing has momentum, along with textural variation and instrumental conversation, making the album more than a display of technique. The recording is a confident contemporary fusion set with a strong sense of groove and interplay.
