(Charleston Square)

Saxophonist Scott Hamilton pays homage to Sweden on his great new recording. Swedish Ballads & More lives up to its billing in a grand way. Hamilton’s rich tone on the horn really gives these tunes a nice coat of polish. The project was recorded in Copenhagen with a solid lineup of Swedish musicians, which includes Jan Lundgren on piano, Kristian Leth on drums and Jesper Lundgaard on bass. The project is a balance of ballads and uptempo tracks and the quartet swings quite nicely. That this effort is as excellent as it is will be no surprise to those who’ve followed Hamilton’s career over the years.
