Will Schneider Trio | Convergence
French horn played and composer Will Schneider leads a chordless ensemble through seven original compositions on Convergence, that draw equally from contemporary jazz, chamber music and open improvisation. Andrew Peck on bass and Brad Billmaier on drums function less as a conventional rhythm section than as responsive voices in a three-way conversation, giving Schneider’s French horn room to move between lyrical reflection and more abstract exploration. A.J. Shank on tenor saxophone and Geoffery Schneider on alto saxophone broaden the tonal palette on select pieces without disturbing the album’s spacious character. Inspired by the stories, traditions and shared experiences that connect humanity across generations, the music unfolds as a continuous meditation, with recurring contrasts of sound and silence lending the recording a quiet narrative pull. Schneider’s writing favors patient development over quick resolution, resulting in an absorbing work whose ideas reveal themselves gradually through attentive listening.
