Singer Vicki Burns brings a warm, reflective spirit to Almost Christmas, a five-song holiday EP shaped by a deeply personal moment and an inspired studio session. Centered around the original title piece, written by Roger Schore with music by Eddie Higgins, the project expands to include seasonal classics by Irving Berlin; Walter Kent and Kim Gannon; Vince Guaraldi and Lee Mendelson; Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn; and Matt Dennis and Tom Adair. Burns recorded the album with pianist Art Hirahara, bassist Steve Wood, and drummer Jay Sawyer, whose straightforward contributions on their instruments help anchor the spontaneity of the session. Captured at East Side Sound and polished by engineer Dave Darlington, the recording balances intimacy and immediacy, offering a concise but heartfelt entry into the holiday jazz canon.
