Good News is the 6th album from The Flying Horse Big Band and pretty substantial one. For this production, the band teams, for the first time, with the UCF (University of Central Florida) Studio Orchestra. The result is a powerful yet agile brand of music. Jeff Rupert, who also plays saxophone on the recording, directs and leads the big band, which includes a 4-piece rhythm section, a 13-piece brass section, and an even larger string orchestra. The project includes the guests talents of Per Danielsson on piano, Richard Drexler on bass, Bobby Koelble on guitar and Marty Morelli on drums. Vocalist Jeff Gerard also lends his voice to a couple of tracks. The tunes here are nice arrangements of tunes by Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, John Lennon, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Bob Mintzer, among others. A fantastic set and showcase of many talents on this one.
