Saxophonist Ron Blake has returned to the studio from his varied and multi-faceted career, which includes two decades in the Saturday Night Live band to record his first album in 15 years. Mistaken Identity is the wonderful product of an outstanding collaboration with guitarist Bobby Broom who plays on and produced the album. The effort is a cool mix of tunes by the likes of Duke Pearson, Johnny Griffin, Sonny Rollins and Benny Golson alongside compositions by Blake, Broom, and Reuben Rogers who occupies the bass chair on this production. The album also features the talents of bassist Nat Reeves and drummer Kobie Watkins. The recording has the rich sound of musicians of considerable experience and familiarity with their respective instruments resulting in a thoroughly enjoyable work.
