Listening to pianist Roberta Piket any time is a true joy, and this recording is no exception to that rule. West Coast Trio is a true attention and ear-grabber. It’s a wonderful showcase of Piket bright sound and deft touch at the keys. She’s joined on this effort by drummer Joe La Barbera and bassist Darek Oleszkiewicz. The three have musical camaraderie that translate into wonderful performances on each tune. Guitarist Larry Koonse is a wonderful addition on two tracks. Percussionist Billy Mintz guests on one tune. Piket contributed two originals to the package of that is comprised of tunes by George Shearing, Michel Legrand, Chick Corea, Richard Rodgers, Djavan, John Hicks and Walter Donaldson. It just doesn’t get much better than this. An outstanding effort.
