Rahsaan Barber’s mother and grandmother could be fairly credited as producers on The Music In The Night. It was his mother’s love of his performance of standards and his grandmother’s request that he “put a blues in every set” and “play pretty” that inspired this production by the Nashville-based saxophonist. Barber delivers on their wishes quite well for a fantastic collection of varied and lovely collection of established and newer standards.  The list includes classics by Hoagy Carmichael, Butch Warren, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Stevie Wonder and Tom Bahler, among others. Great performances from pianist Matt Endahl, bassist Jack Aylor and drummer Derrek Phillips, as well as guests James DaSilva on guitar and vocalist Dara Tucker augment a wonderful effort led by Barber’s great tone and touch on the horn.
