On Superheroes, pianist, trumpeter and arranger Randy Waldman, enlists super musical figures to cover the themes of some favorite television and film action heroes. A star-studded lineup regenerates the music associated with the likes of Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Underdog and more. Waldman and Justin Wilson, primarily, manage the task of arranging the tunes in the context of a jazz ensemble. The musically-gifted cast here is as impressive as their super-powered mutant subjects. The lineup here includes pianist Chick Corea, guitarists George Benson and Michael O’Neill, saxophonists Joe Lovano and Chris Potter, trumpeters Wynton Marsalis, Randy Brecker, Arturo Sandoval, Till Brönner and Wayne Bergeron, as well as drummers Vinnie Colaiuta and Steve Gadd. The lineup also includes Eddie Daniels on sax and clarinet, Bob McChesney on trombone, Carlitos Del Puerto on bass and Rafael Padilla on percussion and supergroup Take 6 on vocals. Additionally, the production includes voice cameos by actors James Brolin, Jeff Goldblum, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, along with musicians Josh Groban and Micahel Bublé. A truly super effort by Waldman and all involved.
