With Respect is trombonist Peter Lin’s wonderful musical homage to important people in his life, including family, friends and mentors like Steve Turre and Slide Hampton. Of Asian-American heritage, much of the recording features Lin’s solid arrangements of songs from the Chinese and Taiwanese popular songbooks in the jazz idiom. The production also features an original work from Lin and a work from Hampton’s repertoire. The Lintet, as its billed, features a talented group players, including Anthony Nelson Jr. on saxes and flute, Ben Kovacs on tenor sax, Anthony Ware on alto sax, James Zollar on trumpet Charlie Sigler on guitar, Oscar Williams II on piano Nic Cacioppo and Winard Harper on drums and Ben Rubens on bass. The ensemble moves through the array of swing and ballads with ease, creating a recording that sounds absolutely fantastic.
