Singer Peter Eldrige and pianist Kenny Werner deliver a lush and elegant new recording with Somewhere. Eldrige’s baritone voice carries the lyric superbly, while Werners’s deft touch on keys covers stellar melodies in this culmination of a decade-long dream project. The setlist is a beautiful array of ballads from the great American songbook and a number of newer works written by Werner and others. The project’s rhythm section is rounded out wonderfully by bassist Matt Aronoff and drummer Yoron Israel. Tenor sax George Garzone cameo on a Werner tribute is also fantastic and the gorgeous 20-piece string orchestra conducted by cellist Eugene Friesen takes the rich romantic production into the musical stratosphere. An absolute classic of a recording.
