Your Refrain is Maggie Herron’s lovely homage to her daughter and lyrical collaborator, Dawn Herron, who was killed in April of this year in a tragic accident. The mother and daughter were in the midst of creating tunes at the time of the accident, some of which are the basis of this recording. The singer was determined to complete this effort despite the pandemic. The album was finished remotely, with many of the musicians contributing their performances from locations far from Herron’s Hawaii base. Aiding in the creation of this effort are the talents of pianists Larry Goldings and Bill Cunliffe, saxophonist Bob Shepard, bassist Dean Taba and David Enos, drummer John Ferraro, guitarist and trumpeter/vocalist Rick Braun. Pianist Geoffrey Keezer and vocalist Gillian Margot provide arrangements to a couple of the tunes, with some additional background vocals by Margot and Brandon Winbush. This beautiful and bright testament to power of love, resilience and music.
