Organist Larry Goldings, guitarist Peter Bernstein and drummer Bill Stewart are back with their twelfth album since their first recording together in 1991. Toy Tunes can best described as the simple pleasure of listening to three accomplished collaborators hold a wonderful, musical conversation. It’s a very engaging and transporting and color-filled work, which ranges from a tribute to Donald Fagen, another to Bernstein’s oldest son, to an arrangement inspired by the late guitarist Jim Hall. The collection of mostly original tunes moves from melodic ballad to uptempo grooves very fluently. The trio makes wonderfulness sound effortless. A truly fantastic listen.
