Saxophonist Kevin Sun sets an exploratory tone with, Trio, his second recording. The production feels dedicated to find new angles and corners to presenting the material on this effort. Aiding Sun in this mission are bassist Walter Stinson and drummer Matt Honor. The three players feed off of each others contributions quite well which adds to the electricity of the tunes. The project is comprised mostly of Sun’s writing, with the inclusion of one standards which is also subjected to a new look. This is an adventurous, ambitious and refreshing production.
