Kenny Washington has emerged as one of the preeminent jazz vocalists of the current day. What’s The Hurry is further evidence of this opinion. Washington’s ease of delivery and warm tone makes listening to anything he croons a real pleasure. On this effort, he takes on a bevy of standards and sculpts them in his own form. The set here includes the brilliant compositions of the writing duos of Frank Perkins and Mitchell Parish, George and Ira Gershwin, Duke Ellington and Don George, and Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, among others. The fantastic performances of Washington are enhanced by the musicianship of Josh Nelson on piano, Lorca Hart on drums Jeff Massanari on guitar, Gary Brown and Dan Feiszli on bass, Victor Goines on tenor saxophone and clarinet, Mike Olmos on trumpet, Jeff Cressman on trombone, Peter Michael Escovedo on bongos and Ami Molinelli-Hart on percussion. A truly stellar recording.
