Singer Jazzmeia Horn’s Love & Liberation is an elevating next chapter that follows a highly-lauded first outing. Produced with Chris Dunn, who also produced Horn’s debut disc, the recording further establishes Horn as one of the great singing talents on the scene today. Her depth and skillset are on full display on a production that gives her free reign to create. Eight of the 12 tunes here are originals encompassing the full range of emotions based on Horn’s life. The cover tunes are also wonderfully arranged works by Jon Hendricks, Erykah Badu, Rachelle Ferrell, Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Mercer. The musicianship on this effort is fittingly top-notch with players like pianists Victor Gould (Horn’s regular accompanist) and special guest Sullivan Fortner, tenor saxophonist Stacey Dillard and trumpeter Josh Evans, bassist Ben Williams, and drummer/singer Jamison Ross. Horn is a stellar talent and this is truly a masterwork.
