Saxophonist Jacám Manricks’ Samadhi provides a calming presence to these heady times. This is not to say that the music is sedate, in fact, the performances of the tunes, all compositions by Manrick, brim with an engaging energy that draws the listener in quite well. In addition to quality writing, the production is aided by truly sturdy musicianship. Joining in this effort are talents of Joe Gilman on piano, Matt Penman on bass and Clarence Penn on drums. The interplay between the unit is truly above par, providing a welcomed and thoroughly enjoyable musical excursion. A really wonderful recording.
