Singer Gregory Porter continues to astound with his latest effort. One Night Only-Live at Royal Albert Hall was recorded in front of a full house at the stately London theater. Porter’s equally regal voice is augmented by his band of pianist Chip Crawford, bassist Jahmal Nichols, drummer Emanuel Harrold, and saxophonist Tivon Pennicott, joined with the 70-piece London Studio Orchestra led by conductor and arranger Vince Mendoza. The 19-song set, featuring superb arrangements and orchestration, is comprised of a mix of compositions from various of the vocalist’s productions, including several selections from his recent tribute to Nat King Cole. Porter’s resonant tones soar with and over the strings, brass and acoustics of the cavernous venue. A truly mesmerizing and outstanding recording.
