Guitarist Fareed Haque’s Casseus! is a wonderful fusion of the classical guitar with Haitian folk music sounds, in the spirit of Haitian-American guitarist Frantz Casseus for whom the production is named. Haque’s masterful playing on the compositions, all of which he composed, is full of jazz virtuosic fingerwork. The interplay with strong percussive elements is truly engaging. Adding to the quality of the production are the talents of Kevin Kozol on piano, Alex Austin on bass, Greg Fundis, Rob Dicke, and Paul Wertico on drums, Jose Maria Piedra and Paul Cotton on percussion, Juan Pastor on cajon and Richard Christian on tabla. Ugochi Nwaogwugwu provides lovely vocal accompaniment on one of the tracks. A truly excellent recording.
