Introspection is the outstanding debut recording from New York-based pianist and composer Eunmi Lee. The production is a special one, featuring completely original compositions from Lee that explore interesting combinations of musical moods and instrumentation while remaining thoroughly entertaining. In addition to Lee’s stellar touch on the keys, the effort includes great contributions from Vinicius Gomes on guitar, Matt Clohesy on acoustic bass, Ari Hoenig on drums, Alan Ferber (who produced the album) on trombone, Jon Gordon and Remy Le Boeuf on various saxes, with John Ellis on bass and traditional clarinet. The fantastic string section here includes Joyce Hammann and Meg Okura on violins, Maria Jeffers and Jody Redhage on cello, and Lois Martin on viola. A truly impressive first outing.
