Trumpet and flugelhorn player Erik Jekabson delivers a very entertaining collection of music on One Note at a Time. Jekabson wrote all of the tunes on this sturdy work, produced by Gregory Howe, which is a nice blend of upbeat numbers and ballads. There’s a percussive Latin flavor to many of the selections. The musicianship all around is top-notch with Dave Ellis on tenor and soprano saxophones, Dave MacNab on guitar, John Wiitala on bass, John Santos on congas and percussion and David Flores on drums, with Mads Tolling and Alisa Rose on violins. Poet Avotcja provides a vocal on the title tune. An excellent recording and listening experience.
