Leap of Faith captures hard bop tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander at his powerful best. Recorded live at New York City’s Jazz Gallery, the album has Alexander and a trio of bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Johnathan Blake taking the framework a song and building it out in a way that sounds, and feels, totally improvisational. Alexander’s big bold tone is captivating and lights the way through the eight-track set of his original tunes. Weiss and Blake provide the foundation that complements the horn’s massive presence so incredibly well. Another production from Alexander that places him well among the heavy hitters of the tenor sax today.
