Natural Lines, saxophonist David Sills’ 17th recording as a leader, is a truly fantastic work. The production features outstanding performances from a stellar lineup of top players. In addition to Sills on tenor saxophone and alto flute, the band is comprised of two guitarists, Larry Koonse and Mike Scott, as well as bassist Blake White and drummer Tim Pleasant. The set is a nice mix of moods, with the players really swinging on the uptempo numbers. The songs the band takes on really lend to the quality of the effort. In addition to tunes that Sills, Scott and Koonse either wrote or co-wrote, there are wonderful compositions from Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Alan Broadbent, Jimmy Davis, Roger Ramirez and James Sherman. Sills and company really deliver on this superb product.
